OTP application on a smarthphone can work then. Many banks use digipass. They used to give out little calculator type things, but now its all an app on the smart phone and does not require connectivity.

I've lived in several Middle Eastern countries including Turkey and Jordan. I've been to nearly every Middle Eastern country except Syria (was almost there though), Iraq and Yemen.
And we are a Cyprus company so we know the Syria situation well.

I have to head out now to town for a bit. For now I would suggest you look at a smartphone app like digipass. I dont know how much digipass costs to use, but there might be open source alternatives if its cost is too great. Many banks use digipass.

Istanbul is great to visit, not to live.. at least not when we were there. Infrastructure was a total joke although a lot has improved since then.

Security was an issue too, only place I've ever been tear gassed in my own home (the whole compound was under \seige\) and had to be protected for 2 weeks by about 600 police.
