What I'm implementing right now is a new property that allows (optionally) IWLookupComboBoxes (and listboxes) to keep M/D list datasets in sync (the ones referenced by ListSource property) with ZERO coding. It may or may not be ideal for your scenario, depending on the way your organized your tables/foreign keys.
But whatever you want to accomplish, you can already do it TODAY using SelectedValue property (instead of KeyValue)
2019-12-17T16:05:10
the reason behind is that KeyValue (historically) was supposed to change according to the DataSource/DataField value, not with the lookup ListSource/ListField value
2019-12-17T16:10:42
I am going to try Sir! You see I always use the KeyValue when I want the selected value to be the value of a parameter to return specific values from the server in order not to overwhelm the network. By selecting the LookupComboBox, it would return the key value of the selected item and this KeyValue is the foreign key value in another table
2019-12-17T16:11:38
Just a question of curiosity; are you the one behind IntraWeb development?
2019-12-17T16:13:59
I'm one of the developers, yes
2019-12-17T16:22:14
Excellent! IntraWeb has been around for quite a while; is fair to say that it is not adopted for critical systems! If so why? The reason of my question is I am in the process of evaluating IntraWeb for the government big projects like national identification and others, however I am concerned by the robustness of IntraWeb server to handle the traffic; could not make sense to incorporate a system like mORMot in The server part out of the box? As an open source I think mORMot team would be open to the idea.
2019-12-17T16:22:53
IW is used in MANY critical systems.
2019-12-17T16:23:17
IW can work with any backend, there isnt really a need to bundle any.
2019-12-17T16:23:35
IW is used by many banks and governments. Those are critical apps.
2019-12-17T16:24:14
Thanks for your info; it is good to know
2019-12-17T16:24:18
In fact IW is one of if not the oldest continually developed web tool in any language I can think of. It dates back to even before Javascript.
2019-12-17T16:24:50
You would be hard pressed to find a more *mature* and stable web framework in any language.
2019-12-17T16:25:47
We had \AJAX\ before it existed or even could exist in how they finally did AJAX. It was called umPartial, long before browsers even had async HTTP requests etc.. in fact we demoed it at CEBIT in 2002 or so.
2019-12-17T16:26:05
IW has long been a pioneer that others have copied in other languages and frameworks and 17 takes this lead back again.
2019-12-17T16:26:25
Yes I know; I encountered IW since Delphi 6 and developed quite few systems in my work space with the bundle However the deployment has always been a hassle
2019-12-17T16:26:49
Let’s hope IW 17 will be different
2019-12-17T16:26:52
We had live dynamic images as far back as 1997..... We demoed it in London in summer 1997. No one else had anything like that till post 2000.
2019-12-17T16:28:37
Deployment is very easy - but users add many dependencies. Many apps you just deploy a single EXE and done.
It cant be eas easy as copying scripts though, at least not with Delphi. Native code requires binaries. But thats just how Delphi works and what Delphi is.
PHP might be easier to deploy, but its also WAY slower, more CPU, more RAM, and you dont have static verification and the deployments are brittle and easily broken.
2019-12-17T16:28:45
Same for node etc.
2019-12-17T16:29:21
17 you can deploy as scripts only, but only if you dont use the Delphi parts.. .which defeats what Delphi devs are seeking.
2019-12-17T16:29:27
Do you have any demo that demonstrates how to insert pdf files in a database and how to read it from IW?
2019-12-17T16:30:42
The upload demo shows how to send an uploaded file to a DB. Parsing PDF is a non IW task, but Delphi can do it and of course anything Delphiable works in IW...
2019-12-17T16:30:56
Case in point. :)
2019-12-17T16:31:05
As long as it works and it keeps the same philosophy I think we can still spend few hours to learn the typescript
2019-12-17T16:31:54
It will take you more than a few hours to learn TS, even if you are proficient in JS. 17 can work with any backend, Delphi or not. The Delphi parts though add significant value and functionality.

I am sorry what is that you just sent
2019-12-17T16:32:32
There are longer videos on our website.
2019-12-17T16:32:57
Yes I have been watching
2019-12-17T16:33:42
From todays beta build:
2019-12-17T16:33:57
(upcoming beta build... almost complete)
2019-12-17T16:34:29
Designer in 17 is fully live - so what you see is *exactly* what you get. Always.
2019-12-17T16:35:10
With Bootstrap, in Delphi IDE
2019-12-17T16:35:46
I should have included the object inspector in that pic, but it works live too... that can be seen in the video I posted.
2019-12-17T16:35:56
What is the main improvement and the gains with 17 compared to 15? Is that speed, ease of deployment or what?
2019-12-17T16:36:10
Sk

Sokel sorry
2019-12-17T16:36:18
here:
2019-12-17T16:36:29
in what IW15 is hard to deploy? can you tell me a real case?
2019-12-17T16:37:08
ISAPI can be a PITA.. but thats for all ISAPI not just IW.... HTTP.sys and SA is cake
2019-12-17T16:39:59
You see with Javascript! There are site where you just send your files already packed and voila! But IW you need to own space on cloud. Also the main issue with IW is that one has to spend more money to buy components from other company to achieve what Iw can’t
2019-12-17T16:42:14
1) JS is scripted. But that deployment is also *very* brittle. One mistake in one file and you wont know till someone tries to use that part. This is also not an IW issue, but one of native code, ie Delphi.
JS is also *way* slower and uses *way* more RAM and JS code itself is very brittle as well. Its not a valueless trade.
Its like saying that a bicycle is cheaper than a car, while forgetting that you have a family and that it snows etc.
2) The components - 17 will address that. 17 has JQueryUI, type: link datatables.NET and much more built in.
2019-12-17T16:42:24
I am sure you have looked at uniGUI; I think it seems impressive. I just tried LookupComboBox as it worked first time; something to say?
2019-12-17T16:43:12
Unigui is not usable in any real multisession environment
2019-12-17T16:43:16
it just crashes
2019-12-17T16:43:26
Ill let Alexandre handle that. But let me tell you this.... go ahead and try to scale UniGui and see what happens. :)
Also, UniGui is very expensive becuase of the ExtJS licenses and the license it includes is very limited and doesnt even include all controls.
The look up issue isnt a limitation, but a misunderstanding on your part of how it works.
2019-12-17T16:43:27
and moreover it's copied over IW
2019-12-17T16:43:46
Yep. First Unigui versions *ran on top of IW* even.
2019-12-17T16:44:50
UniGUI isnt even on the current ExtJS version and the move to the new one is going to break ALL user apps and even they have stated that.
2019-12-17T16:44:53
about lookupcombobox in the years I also added features to IW LookupComboBoxes
that later Alexandre implemented.
Alex is repeating you to use SelectedValue as everything is working well
using it
and you continue to have wish to use KeyValue even in cases when
the DataSource/DataField are not assigned
2019-12-17T16:45:08
The new ExtJS version is not backwards compat.
2019-12-17T16:45:31
about what are we talking?) you just don't want to see that what you
ask is already implemented and Alex is jumping to make it like you like)
would any UniGui developer do the same for you?
2019-12-17T16:45:40
ExtJS from most perspectives is functionally dead, you can google it for what web devs think of its future.
2019-12-17T16:45:42
I am glad to learn a lot from you today; please let me know when the LookupComboBox is ready because the government is waiting for me to come up with something to show
2019-12-17T16:46:11
As Alexandre showed you, you can do what you want with 1-2 lines of code...... he's just adding more to make it even easier.

Check those about ExtJS (which UniGUI uses as its core)
2019-12-17T16:47:15
The last question before you go; can you be consulted on big projects if IntraWeb is used? If so what is the procedure?
2019-12-17T16:48:14
Yes but it depends on what kind of consulting you need as to the procedure. If you need someone to code or do that kind of work we have people we can put you in touch with who are close partners of Atozed.
2019-12-17T16:48:15
Ok I will try and see what happened
2019-12-17T16:48:26
if you need any consultation you will find here plenty of professionals that
will be glad to do it for you ??
2019-12-17T16:49:43
It is just go through stress testing the system before deployment to make sure that everything is ok
2019-12-17T16:49:45
And there are tons of videos on Youtube.. many are in Portuguese but even just watching them you will get whats going on. Many are in English too of course.
2019-12-17T16:50:39
Sokel can we ask you which government are you dealing with?
2019-12-17T16:51:07
I am glad I did spend time with you and I hope 17 will cover the mobile too!
2019-12-17T16:51:25
17 covers mobile as well... 15.1 works on mobile of course also but 17 supports mobile much better.
2019-12-17T16:51:46
Ok.
2019-12-17T16:51:58
BUT 17 requires an actual browser like Chrome or FF... 15.1 works with most of the horrid mobile browsers.... 17 requires a \real\ browser
2019-12-17T16:52:39
It already works. You just need to use SelectedValue instead of KeyValue.
It is just a different name for the property
2019-12-17T16:52:58
type: mention_name Sokel user_id: 978150881 ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
2019-12-17T16:55:49
As for the government I prefer not to mention because of some sensibilities; however I am an african but am currently in USA. My government in Africa will be going through designing lots of databases to fight corruption and I might be involved if I can make it on time. I have chosen Firebird I don’t know if you have an informed opinion on it
2019-12-17T16:57:50
Firebird is a very good and capable database. Its one major failing is often connectivity from other languages, but from Delphi connectivity is always top notch.
2019-12-17T16:57:55
If SelectedValue works; what about refreshing the children LookupComboBox to display?
2019-12-17T16:58:27
Sokel Refreshing works
2019-12-17T16:58:41
if the underlying dataset
2019-12-17T16:58:50
is refreshed the component gets refreshed
2019-12-17T16:59:02
are those three queries or table in M/D relationship?
2019-12-17T16:59:18
so datasource of each details points to the datasource of master table/query?
2019-12-17T16:59:36
are they implementing a WHERE TABLE.MASTERKEYFILES=:MASTERKEYFIELD\
2019-12-17T16:59:39
if yes it works smoothly
2019-12-17T16:59:53
I used it since IW9 and now we have reached IW15.1
