R&R Informatica – Damage Tracking

“We have an application to record damages on goods, from facilities to dealers, through vessels, warehouses, trucks, etc. In each check point all goods are inspected, and damages that occurred during the transport are recorded in a central data base. With IntraWeb all the information on those vehicles is available for all the involved companies : Manufacturers, insurance companies, carriers, ship owners, etc.
Before IntraWeb the data were packed into structured files and sent to companies. Without IntraWeb we would not complete the job in the scheduled time.”

R&R Informatica

R&R Informatica Ltda is a small company, located in Sao Paulo – Brazil.
We develop applications in tailor-made mode, using IntraWeb and Borland C++ Builder for Web. We also develop client-server applications, using C++ Builder and C#.
We develop for Palm devices too.

Situation

The Damages Tracking system, developed for a International Company, centralizes all information regarding inspections on goods, from factories to dealers.

After consolidation, the data was extracted into small files and sent to companies that participates in the logistic chain.
In each company we installed a small Win32 application to receive those files and show reports and charts. The growth of data demanded a new approach, Web-based.

All existing programs to show reports and charts would have to be used, instead of developing new ones.

Our customer would not accept the option to reconstruct all the programs because the existing ones were tested and approved for some years.  Re-develop means paying again for the existing ones.

Solution

IntraWeb allowed R&R to develop a new application, Web-based, in record time, using all existing reports and charts.

Implementation

The IW module of Damages Tracking system consists of over 27 selection screens, 17 HTML reports and 14 charts.

Almost all reports can be exported to PDF files and downloaded automatically to the user’s PC. The user can generate some CSV and XLS files to use in its own systems.

The transition from the Windows based application to Web-based was extremely smooth and easy to do with IntraWeb. IntraWeb allowed for reuse of all existing code for reports, charts and file generation, and did not require retraining of the developers.

Impact

The new Web module was created in less than one month. It was welcomed by all companies. Did not require retraining of the users. The Web forms are very close to the Win32 forms, the reports and charts are the same.
All companies can view and analyze the information almost in real-time. No export-import process. No delays.
