Document Types

IWS supports several different document types. There are two groups of documents: Managed and Unmanaged documents. A managed document is a document where variables will get expanded, where templates may get attached and languages may be added. Managed documents are also tracked for changes in location, that is, if you move a document from one folder to another or rename it, any links to that document will get updated automatically (when inserting links using the built-in HTML editor).

Unmanaged documents are deployed as is, IWS does not change the content.

Managed Documents

To add a new managed document please select "New". The "New Item" dialog will pop up:

First you should select the type:

  • Document - This is the standard HTML document. To write a new article or page, you have to select this.
  • Forms - This is an IntraWeb form, which gives you a real WYSIWYG form based layout editor *
  • Template - This is a template which can be used by Documents
  • Variable - A variable may contain any text.

Stylesheets

Stylesheets often contain links to other files on the website, like images. For stylesheets, there's a little trick in IWS to use the IWS-style file references and also edit the stylesheet in your favorite file. For this trick, read more about Managed Documents.

Unmanaged Documents

Other files such as images, JS files etc. These files are not touched by IWS, they will be deployed as is.

*This is a technology preview and not guaranteed to work in all cases. In future versions of IWS these forms will also support codebehind.
