Adding Links to Documents

Link management is one of the most powerful features of IWS.

Internal Links

If you want to insert a link to an internal document (i.e. a document which exists in the same project or in an other project of the same repository server), then press [CTRL] + L (or select "Insert - Hyperlink" from the menu) while the cursor is still in the word that should get linked. If you want to add a link to a whole phrase (i.e. some words with spaces inbetween), then mark this phrase before selecting "Insert - Hyperlink".

The Make Hyperlink dialog will pop up:

On the "Document" tab click on "Browse" and select the document you want to link to. Internally IWS will generate an anchor with HREF set to something like {%DOC.URL.1234%}. This is called an "IWS Identifier", it provides the magic glue that prevents your links to get broken if you rename or move the documents. In the input box at the top of the Make a Hyperlink dialog, you can give the text for the label of the hyperlink.

External Links

External links are links to web pages or files which are not managed in your repository. The URL tab lets you enter any URI.

Note: Always prefix the URL with http:// (or any other protocol identifier that applies).
