Deployment Locations
A deployment location is the place where the web pages and files of an IWS project will be delivered to. Its basically the web server that will serve your web site. IntraWeb can use any web server, on any platform. See below for the different output modes available. Every project in an IWS repository has its own set of deployment locations. Every project has a default deployment location which will be selected automatically, when you click on "Deploy" or select "Project - Deploy". To create or edit the deployment locations that will be available for the current project select "Project - Deployment Locations":
The Deployment Location dialog offers different deployment methods and output modes: Deployment MethodsA Deployment Method determines how the files are delivered from the IWS repository server to the web server. Currently there are two deployment methods: FTPSelect "New FTP Site" if you are deploying your project to a remote web server. This web server can be hosted on the same machine as your IWS Repository Server or on any other machine. COPYSelect "New Local Site" if your web server is accessible via direct file operations (UNC). You can also use COPY to test the output on your local machine without having a web server installed. Note: The asp.net user account needs read permission on root. This is due to the way how coping of files works under .NET. This is not needed for FTP deployment. Output ModesThe deployment mode determines if IWS deploys your pages as .NET ASPX files or as legacy HTML files. ASPX / IWP (Dynamic pages)This is IWS' most powerful mode as it is needed for some of its unique features, such as automatic language detection. You will need an IIS server with .NET 2.0 installed and ASP.NET enabled. There is basically no difference in using ASPX or IWP type. It's just the file extension. (IWP : IntraWeb Studio Pages) Note: You need to create a virtual directory if you are deploying to a subfolder on your web server. HTML (Static pages)Using the HTML mode you can deploy to virtually any Webserver: IIS, Apache (Windows and Linux), Sambar. There are no special requirements. It allows you to deploy to ASP or PHP driven systems as well. |
